Before Drawing Up A Return Or Block You Better…
By FirstDown PlayBook on Apr 28, 2017

We conducted a Twitter poll last week and we were surprised to find that there are still a considerable number of high schools using the Spread Punt. The Shield Punt was still the predominate method but 31% of you said that you were using the same system that is used in the NFL and at some of the college football programs like Alabama.

The first thing that jumps out at us is if there are that many (actually it would only take one) teams running Spread then the coach in charge of the Punt Return unit is going to have to be ready for both styles as he prepares for the upcoming season.

So we are going to take a little time today and tomorrow to cover some very fundamental but very important starting points every Punt Return coach had better have figured out before they draw up one punt return or one punt block!
