Colts Goal Line Stand Vs Cowboys
By FirstDown PlayBook on Dec 17, 2018

In our opinion, sometimes defensive coaches don’t get enough credit. Where when an offense explodes for 40 or 50 points the offensive coordinator is often anointed the next guru of our sport but when the defense stands up and shuts out someone the players often get all of the credit.

Obviously, the players should pretty much get the credit either way but sometimes a defense has such a great day that it is important to point out exactly just how well prepared they were. Yesterday’s defensive performance by the Indianapolis Colts is an example of what we speak of.

The Colts defense played extremely well and shutout the Cowboys for the first time since 2003. If you had to point to one play that exemplifies not only the dominance, but also how well coached and prepared the Colts were, we would choose this goal line stand that we have drawn up today. It occurred in the second quarter with 14:13 on the clock. It was fourth and one with the ball on the three yard line.

The Colts absolutely smothered the run attempt by the Cowboys and tackled Elliot for a loss back at the five yard line. There were a lot of good individual efforts on the play but the Colts defensive coaches deserve some credit on this one too.
