High School Football Lessons On Full Display Tonight
By FirstDown PlayBook on Aug 23, 2019

This is a repost of a blog from last year. As the high school football season begins in many states across our country tonight, we wish everyone healthy and successful 2019 season!

It simply does not get any better than this.

The time when the hard work of days, weeks, months and in some cases even years gets put on display for everyone to see. Every game of the high school football season is special, but the game that sits on top of the schedule is particularly so. After all, as coaches we talk about “one game at a time” and “don’t ever look past any opponent” right?

This high school football game has been sitting there looking back at you as a player or a coach for some time now hasn’t it? Some began looking at the game a little harder this past week. Some have looked to it since camp began and yes some have been looking at it and yearning for it since the the last whistle blew in 2018.

Over the past year the successful teams have formed a bond. By now they are a family. A family that surely has more growing to to do over the next several months, but make no mistake it is a family by this point.

There is so much talk these days about the value of football and what’s wrong with football and how we should change football. If you ask us, football is already one of the most valuable things in the young players’ lives who will kick off their season tonight before even one snap is played.

You see, football does what no other sport does. it takes a large group of players and coaches, maybe it’s thirty, maybe fifty and maybe as many as over a hundred in number and it pulls them together into one. No one on a good football team is paying any attention to their teammates’ race, religion or economic status, trust us on that one.

When it comes to football teams and the family bond that it creates it gets to be very simple. Tonight all across the country, young high school football players will look one another in the eye and commit to being there unselfishly for one another from the first to the last snap.

You will have a hard time convincing us that this is not a lesson every young person, every adult and quite possibly our entire country could stand to learn right now.

Best wishes to all of the fortunate young players and coaches with the 2019 High School football season from FirstDown PlayBook and Hall of Famer Mike Singletary. We look forward to watching you ¬†and your “team” play.
