Motion Adjustments Don’t Always Have To Be Hard
By FirstDown PlayBook on Oct 21, 2017

There is no  doubt that sometimes when you dial up a defensive pressure as a Defensive Coordinator you are secretly hoping to get the formation that you game planned for from the offense. One of the last things you want is a lot of motions or shifts because it just complicates the communication and the chances of getting the pressure executed properly.

However, this does not always have to be the case. Sometimes the structure of the pressure lends itself to adjustments that are carried out easier than others. Also, if the defensive coordinator understands that a motion adjustment might get you checked to a defense that is sound, if not necessarily the best, and he is willing to live with that it can make things easier. Sometimes just the fact that you are getting lined up in a sound defense and playing fast means more than getting in the perfect defensive adjustment.

Our FirstDown PlayBook Smoke pressure that we installed this past week falls into that category to some degree. The adjustments to motions and trades can be very simple and effective if your rules are designed that way. Watch this video to see what we mean:
