Use Your Back With 738 H Angle Return
By FirstDown PlayBook on Oct 26, 2019

We are always looking for a place to take a shot down the field especially when you are in a formation like this that really allows you to have the best of both worlds with protection possibilities also.

This could be 7 man protection with the backs  scanning for the Safeties in case of pressure. However, it also allows you to get one or both backs out into a route.

If you are going to get the backs out just make sure you have an answer if there is pressure or if there is a breakdown up front with protection. This play provides all of that.

If you run this play off of your base play F or H Angle then this play is even better.  Odds are that the Mike linebacker is probably sitting inside waiting to wall the H on the Angle route. Give your quarterback a nice simple Y to H to F triangle read with the idea that the ball gets in the hands of your H in this picture. You can also just keep your F in to full time protect like we have in the drawing below.

It is important that your tight end gets his depth on this play. If you are playing a team that likes to play quarters coverage on the two receiver side then you can alert your quarterback to this if he can handle it. If the quarters safety bites on the Y then he can take the shot to the Z who must get inside of the corner to that side.

The tight end can do a lot to grab that safety just by staring at him as he gets to the top of his route ready to break to the sideline. Vs quarters the tight end can even be a little deeper on his route than 10 yards. Of course it always helps if you have an X who can line up on the single receiver side and win if you get man coverage or even cover 3 in this picture.

The offensive line would protect the four down to the Mike linebacker and the Sam linebacker. The Y or the H can provide you with a convenient hot throw if both of these two linebackers pressure from the strong side. Vs a Will linebacker and Free Safety blitz the X can sight adjust with a dart route or you can just let your QB stay with his hot throws strong.
