Youth Football Spread Formation Tips
By FirstDown PlayBook on Jul 22, 2018

As FirstDown PlayBook puts the finishing touches on your youth football Spread formation we wanted to take this morning to point out a few things that you might have questions about as you begin to use it. We will list them below and the short video we have prepared for you will detail it out more clearly.

We want to make the point again that FirstDown PlayBook designs our youth football plays for players aged twelve and under. There is obviously some generalization needed to do this and we understand that some of you may have a phenomenally gifted quarterback. If that is the case, you may want to take a look at our Varsity section where you will find more advanced plays and ideas or your quarterback and offense. Here are a few tips for your youth football Spread formation:

  1. FirstDown PlayBook does not include man pass protection schemes with our youth football offensive pass plays because when coaching players who are twelve and younger we think gap protection is your best way to go.  Any coach who is looking for man protection schemes can find them in the FirstDown PlayBook Varsity section but be careful about the can of worms you could be opening up.

  2. FirstDown PlayBook always puts a recommended split for the receivers in the Varsity section but the youth passing game is predicated mostly by your quarterback’s age and arm strength. We feel like that is an individual coaching point that you can work out based on your team’s ability.

  3. Finally, you may see a few extra passing plays in this formation. The very nature of this formation says that you think you can throw the ball enough to keep the defense from stacking the box on you so we wanted to make sure we supplied you with this. Many of the passes are quick  game throws that will fit your young quarterbacks arm strength.

FirstDown PlayBook is the only Digital Football PlayBook that gives you access to over thirty three thousand football plays, schemes and technique help all designed by coaches and players with NFL experience. FirstDown Playbook is also the official PlayBook resource of USA Football and Football Canada..

On January 6, 2019 FirstDown PlayBook is going to hand the chalk back to you, the coach. You will finally have the capability of editing our database of plays, which should be pushing 40,000 by then, as well as create your own plays. Want it first and for less? Bang on the football to your left to learn how.
