Bison See The 7×4 And Reap The Reward
By FirstDown PlayBook on Jan 13, 2020

FirstDown PlayBook is running around the Opreyland hotel just like many of you are this week. That doesn’t mean we won’t slow down enough to provide you with some All 22 Tuesday football plays tomorrow.

Saturday and Sunday certainly provided us with a ton of interesting schemes on all three phases of the ball. USA Football’s Keith Grabowski and our coaches will have to find a corner of the hotel to get some of those out to you.

We want to take a moment to give you a little taste of what to expect with this critical play that showed up in the FCS championship Saturday. Any time you are a special teams coach and you see a 7×4 extra point or field goal block alignment that should raise your antennae.

That’s exactly what happened on this field goal as James Madison had a very effective block called. They were obviously attempting to keep the game to one score. The problem was that when you only allow for four defenders to one side you are very vulnerable to a fake.

That’s exactly what happened. Tomorrow on All 22 Tuesday we will look at the video of this big play and talk about how you can prevent this from happening to you next season.
