Almost any defensive coordinator can draw up a four man rush. A lot of defensive minds can design an elaborate pressure. What makes a defensive coordinator special is the ability to make the two look alike.

Defenses will typically work on concealing a pressure until the ball is snapped. In other words, the pressure comes from depth and the coverage looks pretty generic until the ball is snapped.

What the best mad scientists of defense do though is freak a quarterback and offensive line out with the threat of pressure. Once the ball is snapped, however, it becomes obvious that it was all smoke and mirrors.
