I’m back!!! I am so sorry that I have not written anything and have been gone from social media for so long. I started a full-time internship and have been busy graduating with my Bachelors Degree. Luckily, I’m back and ready for this football season to start.

Let me tell you a story. I was watching the Hall of Fame game last Tuesday with my cousin. My cousin knows nothing about football, he knows some of the positions but he doesn’t really know much. While we were watching and I was explaining certain positions and fantasy football to him, I thought about the meaning of football. So then I got to thinking, what does football mean to me?

Football is not just a game, football is DEFINITELY not just a game. Being a football fan is a lifestyle. We all have that one team that we root for, that team can easily determine our mood for the rest of the day and maybe even the week. One of the saddest moments of my life is still the first Super Bowl loss against the Giants. I didn’t talk to anybody the following Monday, my happiness was gone. My Patriots were 18-0, so close to achieving that undefeated season, one game, one play, one sack, one missed tackle, one lucky catch, one touchdown, one loss. It still hurts talking about it, it still hurts looking at the videos, the pictures, the rings, it’s a pain that I don’t think will ever go away. But that is what I love about football.

The-Meaning-of-Football

Most females think of football as a bunch of guys hitting each other. They don’t understand what it means when you’re team loses, they don’t understand what it means when a star player gets injured, they don’t understand what it means to see your team get so close to that championship but not get it. Those are the things that I understand, those feelings, those emotions, that unity within the fans after those down moments, that’s what football means to me. Football is a family, no matter what team you root for, you know you have the support of the fan base. Patriots Nation will always be there with me, they know exactly what emotions I am going through, they are my football family.

I might be a little obsessed, my boyfriend has no idea what he got himself into now that football season is back, he still doesn’t really know about the game, I’m hoping the season starting will help me out a bit. Non-sports fans don’t understand the meaning that Sundays have for us. It’s not just a day of the week, it’s game day. It’s stressing over the game, your team. That stress, you don’t find that anywhere else.

The truth is that there is no one meaning of football for me. Football is family, it’s Sunday afternoons, it’s a lifestyle, a passion, a love. Football means happiness and sadness, joy and anger, enthusiasm and pessimism, craziness and calmness, football is more than a game.
