Ottawa Women Claim First NAIA National Championship

By FirstDown PlayBook on May 10, 2021

You could see it and feel it. The excitement of winning a national championship was on full display this past weekend at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. This was just not any championship though, as special as they all are.

This was the very first national championship for the college sport of flag football. Who won the very first championship in men’s or women’s basketball? Do you know? Who won the first in football? Look it up.

Our point is that there is only one “first” national champion and the Ottawa University women’s flag football team will forever hold that honor. They edged out Keiser University 7-6 this weekend to claim the first-ever NAIA National Championship.

Here at FirstDown PlayBook, we were pretty excited to witness the history in person as it was being made in Atlanta. As the official playbook of NAIA Women’s Flag Football, this made it even more special.
