Situational Football On The Correct Field

By FirstDown PlayBook on Sep 21, 2020

Watching the football games yesterday drove home, once again just how important it is to coach situational football. NFL coaches are the best in the business at this.

The normal down and distance considerations, as well as clock management come to mind when you first mention this. There is a lot more to it though. There are football plays and defenses that are better when called if the ball is on the hash or in the middle of the field. This is even true in the NFL where the hashes are very narrow.

Yesterdays games were full of situational calls based on the part of the field the offense and defense was on. A completely different set of plays comes out of the press box when the ball is backed up or in the red zone areas.

This is one of the main reasons that when you draw your plays and installations you need to use the field landmarks to teach that play. FirstDown PlayBook has worked hard to provide you with custom field backgrounds for the play that you are teaching.

This short video will show you how to make sure your play diagrams are as accurate as possible when it comes to the part of the field you are calling them.

FirstDown PlayBook is the only Digital Football PlayBook that gives you access to over thirty five thousand football plays, schemes and technique help all designed by coaches and players with NFL experience.
