Youth Football Jumbo Backside Blocking Tips

It’s a fine line between being careless with the backside blocking on a run play and blocking “ghosts”. On one hand if you roll the dice and just hope that there is not some sort of stunt or pressure off of the backside you have to be willing to live with the consequences. On the other hand if you are so worried about anything and everything that could happen on the backside you could be handcuffing yourself and your offense.

FirstDown PlayBook has been featuring all of our youth football formations and defenses as we get nearer to football season. As we do this we are trying to insert a few coaching tips that will help you along the way.

Today we are featuring our youth football Jumbo formation and as we do this we want to give some helpful tips on how you can block the backside of these football plays. It’s always important to know that the defense has some rules that they have to abide by too. It’s your job to select plays that compliment one another. This way when the defense cheats on one of their responsibilities you have just the play you need to make them pay.

This short video is a good example of how you can dial up this downhill Lead G run play and feel good about having everyone on the backside blocked up when you call it.
